How to choose
Choosing networking & structured cabling
The honest trade-offs that actually matter — so you spend where it counts and skip what doesn't.
Cat6 vs Cat6A
Cat6 handles most homes and short runs; Cat6A holds 10G further and shields better against interference on long or noisy runs. Spend up where the run is long or future-proofing matters.
PoE budget
Every camera and access point draws power over its cable. Size the switch's total PoE wattage to the load plus headroom, so nothing browns out when everything's running.
Access point placement
Wi-Fi coverage is about where the AP sits, not how many you buy. Place APs for the dead spots and wire them back — a wired backbone is what keeps them reliable.
Terminate, label, test
A run is only done when it's terminated cleanly, labeled at both ends, and tested. That's the difference between a serviceable system and a closet of mystery cable.
What we'd pair with this
Complete the system
A working system is more than one category. These are the pieces that most often finish the job.
- Video surveillanceCameras, recorders, and storage designed so the fields of view overlap — a plate and a face on the same event, and footage that's still there weeks later.Shop video surveillance →

Common questions
Networking & structured cabling — questions people ask
Do I really need cabling if I have good Wi-Fi?
For phones and laptops, Wi-Fi is fine. For cameras and fixed devices, a wired backbone is what keeps the feed up when the network is busy or the Wi-Fi is congested. We'll be honest about where wireless is genuinely fine and where it isn't.
What kind of cable do you run?
Network and data cabling in Cat6 or Cat6A copper, terminated, labeled and tested. We don't install optical fiber.
